Slow Sunday Stitching – 17 Nov 2019 – Accomplishments

Hello again from South Texas and this time a more positive post!  YEA!

I have been working on Alexander Bean Pot quilt by Carol Hopkins in her book Civil War Legacies.  I have done an additional 4 blocks, with 20 more remaining.  They are 5” unfinished and when I finish the 20 I will have 4 blocks of each color with a total of 64 blocks.   I finished 2 of the red and beige and 2 of the black and white.

In getting back to my applique work, I finished one block for Jacobean Holiday.  I have 2 other small blocks to finish and then 3 large blocks and then it will be time to put the blocks together!  This one has been in the making probably 9 years due to the lack of interest.  I found the other finished blocks in my UFO bin.

I have started on Mary Brown after purchasing tons of new reproduction fabrics.  They will all be used in this quilt.  I have the 16 corner blocks prepared and will be working toward getting 8 blocks completed by the end of the month!  It is really feeling good to be back on schedule for November.

Here is Mary Brown – Block 1 of the top left quadrant section!

This was my original bird but I just was not happy after seeing purple instead of black in the fabric (new eyes help)!  LOL

Goal for this week is to finish up with Alexander blocks and work on Sweet Stitches, Mary Brown, and Jacobean Holiday.  There are so many other quilts that I would love to start working on, but I really want to finish up my UFO’s and catch up on Mary Brown!

Have a great week!

Nanette

  1. Ah, you are a woman of strong restraint, sticking to your UFOs instead of chasing after every new project that comes your way! I love your appliqué bird.

    1. Sorry for responding late Rebecca – Thank you, but sometimes it is easier to just start a new one, but my goal this year was to finish all UFO’s. Cataract surgery has put me behind and I do not have much time to continue to finish my annual goal! Thank you for the compliment on the bird. The first one will be saved, but the one with the flower is for the Mary Brown quilt!

  2. I just read your Enduring Legacy post, Nanette. I knew you were an awesome quilter and hearing that you got featured on Barbara Blackman’s blog…that is quite the feather in your cap!
Meanwhile, I’m also happy to hear you’ve sorted out those frustrations with the quilt and your machine. As always it sounds like you and Clay make quite the team even in getting these quilts quilted! Happy Apliqueing!

    1. Thank you Jocelyn – sorry for the late response – Clay has really upgraded the table and machine from when it first came out and fixed all the problems they had in 2005. But as long as it runs I am keeping it!
Clay and I spend all our time together in the Studio – he works on his projects and I do my quilting. We are blessed!

    1. The first block will be in the Mary Brown quilt, the block with just the Red Bird is being retired for another time – darn! But that red bird fabric would not go with my reproduction fabrics! Sorry for being late in responding! Thank you for the nice comments. Hugs

  3. Love the red bird! You must use it in a future quilt – of on something, it is so pretty. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Mondays, and please provide a link within your blog post so people can see the other Design Walls every Monday. You have been really productive, makes me want to get more done.
