OMG – 30 September 2022 and Projected October Goals

I will welcome in October and hoping for a wet and cold winter here in South Texas. The mornings are becoming cooler and I am enjoying the morning walk, more and more. BUT I believe that when one is 31 days from turning 78 I had better put the pedal to the metal so that by the time I get to Halloween I am back to my 20 minute mile! I wonder what I will be able to do when I hit 80! Hum, I just want to continue with my daily walk and have fun quilting, knitting, embroidery, and cross stitching.

I have been working on My Surprise Quilt and In The Garden Bunny Rabbit blocks (there are 4 of them). To read the background story of My Surprise Quilt click here.

Here are the Rabbit Blocks completed this month. One more light brown bunny to applique!

I still have more borders to make for My Surprise Quilt, but I have made more progress on it this month. I will have some 1″ border strips and then 2 more block borders and one plain border to end the quilt. It will top out at 80″ x 80″ or 84″ x 84″. – It will be a surprise to all of us! LOL

For October my goals will be:

  1. Finish My Surprise Quilt
  2. Prepare the remaining 5 blocks for In My Garden
  3. Start a hand quilting project (have a few tops that are waiting in line patiently)
  4. Do more hand work, less piecing as it is time to catch up on those UFOs.
  5. Send 12 quilts to Rebecca for quilting.
  6. FINALLY get back to my long arm and finish up the remainder of quilt tops.
  7. Complete my Churn Dash SAL project – I need to put the blocks together in a setting

I hope that the month of October is a quiet month – that means no ISSUES OR PROBLEMS! Any bets on that one? LOL

Have a wonderful week-end and a great beginning of October. We do not have Fall yet, maybe next time!

Hugs, Nanette

  1. What beauties all those blocks are. I especially like the blue quilt, though your bunnies are adorable. You’ve been doing plenty, and have another set of good goals ahead.

Happy birthday a little early. Mine is Dec, but 75. Planning a big trip with my college roommie who is 75 in November.

    1. Thank you Dawn. I am betting that the my Math is still good! LOL. I really want to do some hand work next – wish we could get some COLD weather – 30’s in the AM and 60’s during the day with rain one day a week to get over the horrible drought, but will take we are given! Hugs

  2. Your surprise quilt is so pretty, mine would be flaring at the edges with border additions! Glad you are having some cooler weather. I am hoping for a wet winter too. Isn’t it amazing that the older we get, the happier we are to just be able to do those little things that make us happy. Enjoy your birthday month!

    1. Thank you Linda! It has been slow going, but with each increase in the size of the quilt it takes more blocks to make! I can handle the 60’s with low humidity but would prefer the 50’s. They indicated a colder wet winter – hope they were not teasing us. Yes, it is the little things – but boy would I love to be at the Poker machine in the Casino. LOL. Hugs

    1. Why thank you Sharon. Yes I hope I can achieve them, but if not they will slide to November. I will be increasing time spent doing hand work, and I am really wanting to start hand quilting. I have at least 8 that need to be hand quilted. They are my applique quilts. Rebecca will take a big load off my shoulders doing the 12 quilts. Hugs

    1. There are 4 bunnies altogether, so I decided to put a light and dark on the top corners of the quilt and a dark and light on the bottom corners. Have a great week and thank you for the Linky party! Hugs

  3. I’m enjoying the cooler weather too! Blue is my favorite color, so of course I am drawn to your surprise quilt! Thank you for the link to Rebecca’s site.

    1. Rebecca does some beautiful quilting with her long arm. I never thought I would send my quilt out, but all of them that she will be doing are very special complex quilts and I wanted more than meandering. The last of the tops will be either hand quilted or I will long arm them. Hope all is well. Hugs

    1. Thank you Deb A! I just have the flowers to applique now and a couple of leaves and then I will be preparing the other 5 blocks! If I work on it steadily it won’t take long. An easy applique.

  4. Thank you Sharon. Yes, I started with the Center Star, measured it and started from there. No pattern, just did the math before and after each border! I am now on the last 2! Yea. Hugs
